                                    <div class="element-text">An article on the First International Film Festival, organized by the Indian Government. The festival was declared open with a speech by the then Governor of West Bengal, Dr. Harendra Kumar Mukhopadhyay on 29 February 1952 at Eden Garden, Kolkata. The 15 days festival showcased 50 feature films and 90 documentaries from France, America, Britain, Italy, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Egypt, Russia, China, Romania, Japan and Argentina.  The three Indian films that were shown in the festival were &acirc;&euro;&tilde;Amar Bhupali&acirc;&euro;&trade;, &acirc;&euro;&tilde;Patal Bhairavi&acirc;&euro;&trade; and &acirc;&euro;&tilde;Babla&acirc;&euro;&trade;.  There were representatives from participating countries including Frank Capra from Hollywood.</div>
